Extrinsic and intrinsic. We have explored both sides of this balance, shell and core. Now is the time for fine tuning and integration. At this point we have gotten a good idea of "trouble spots" for your body. Now is the time to move not by yards but by inches to bring closer balance. Classically there are several theories to what the integration sessions should be. One method of working involves fascial planes. These are larger areas of fascia that cover an entire area. Many times we will have freed the outside and the inside, yet they have not aligned with one another properly. For instance, if the thighs previously tended to be rotated slightly outward, we worked the extrinsic thigh muscles, loosened and aligned the knee, and worked extensively in the hips and psoas. When all this is done, the overall fascial memory may still have a twist to it. What we can do here is basically twist the entire thigh inward to get all of our individual parts on the same page. Another theory of the integration sessions is to go back to our "trouble spots" identified in earlier sessions. Sometimes this will take an entire session, sometimes just part of a session. The psoas is usually worked on at least once in the integration sessions, and very often two or three times, because of it's importance in a structurally sound body. Another theory still is to work all of the joints for a particular session area. The thought here is that the joints are the most common "stuck spots" in the body, and that unbalance will show up at the muscle attachments, which are usually found at the joints. Also if we align each end of any individual bone, the center must be in line, since bones are static in shape and size. I particularly like this for session 10, as it's a great way to get every joint one last time and it is usually very freeing without having to work every inch of every muscle. When it comes time to do the integration sessions, it is best to discuss with the practicioner what areas you feel need more work, and what areas of your body you feel as stuck or limited, now that we've explored the entire structure. |
