Is Structural Integration for me? Short answer, yes! Absolutely. Realigning with the bodies natural structure is for everyone. That being said, some conditions are contraindicative for massage. These include, but are not limited to, currently broken bones, fever, inflammation, high blood pressure, hernias, infectious disease, osteoperosis, vericose veins, skin problems, cancer and certain stages of HIV infection. Some of these are only reasons to avoid the area (broken bones and hernia's for example), whereas others are reasons to avoid deep intense massage all together (such as osteoperosis). Cancer is on this list because it can be spread through the lymphatic system, and softer massage tends to increase lymphatic flow. Structural Integration is not aimed at increased lymphatic function however, so may be an option. If you have a condition on this list, or another that you are concerned about, please email me and/or ask your doctor. While massage is not a "treatment" for any disease, other than the dis-ease of sore muscles, the overall function that is increased within the body, once it returns to it's optimal form, can and has helped many people to "feel better", to whatever extent. Do I have to do the 10-series No. Individual treatments or multiple treatments designed for your body are available. The 10-series is a symptom non-specific way of covering and aligning the entire body. It is also a great diagnosis tool for exploring your individual body and seeing where more work beyond the 10-series would be most helpful.
