Sessions 8: Keep Your Feet On The Ground...

In Sesstion 8, we will be working from the LDH, or 12th rib and below. This session is a chance to really align the foundation of the body. In Structural Integration, we consider this to be the top of the leg, since it's where the Psoas attaches. This is an excellent chance to work the psoas again, especially if we found tightness there before, since it hasn't been worked on in the last two sessions. It's also a great opportunity to reinforce the core line lifting that we did in session 4.

Often times I will also work the knees in this session, either untwisting fascial planes or reinforcing the balance that we found in sessions 2, 4 and 6. The knee is an area that many people in our society have problems with, though this may not be true for you in particular. The contrete jungle can be particularly hard on this joint, especially for runners or people that work on their feet. Even activities such as driving the car or cooking dinner can encourage lateral rotation (that's to the outside) of the legs, often times locking the knee and causing undue hardship. Next time you're standing at the kitchen sink, notice if your feet are parallel or turned out. How about next time you step on that gas pedal? Even sitting in your chair right now, are you sitting evenly with both feet flat on the ground or are your knees "falling out"? Perhaps one is tucked under your other leg?

The important part of this session is that it will be designed for you by your therapist, with input from you. Don't be afraid to ask for what you want here. If your ankle has been bothering you, say so. If you hips are still tight, lets go there. It's an open canvas where your needs are our motivation.
